As the airshow circuit comes to an end for 2016, Nellis AFB sure knows how to end this year’s schedule by having an outstanding static display, and excellent aerial demonstration schedule.
Aerial display consisted of the West Coast Ravens flying their RV aircraft (RV-4, RV-6A, RV-7, and RV-8), C-17 PACAF Demonstration team, Nellis Heritage Parade consisting of a T-6, P-40,P-51, P-63, B-25, PB4Y-2, Mig-15, F-86, T-33, and the QF-4E. Aviation Nation was the last airshow for the QF-4’s. After the heritage parade, T-33 AceMaker performed along with “Smoke-n-Thunder JetCar in a little race between land and air. The Highlight of the show came from the “Nellis Capabilities Demonstration”, watching two F-15C’s go head to head with two F-16’s from the 64th Aggressor squadron was more than amazing. After the Air to air demo we were the Air to Ground demo consisting of two F-15E’s, and two A-10C’s providing air cover for two Blackhawks which also include crew of PJ’s in their act. Shortly after, a DC-10 conducted a Water drop demostration, while being lead in by an OV-10A Bronco acting as their spotter. The acts don’t stop there, the US Navy F-18E/F TAC West demo team VFA-122 performed as well with the local F-22 demonstration by USAF ACC ( Air combat Command) , followed by the USAF Heritage flight (F-22, F-35, F-86). To conclude the show, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds performed their last show of the year flying those red white and Blue F-16C Blk 52.

Photographing in Nellis AFB is always a challenge in the early afternoon and mid noon. You get very harsh backlid condition. Unfortunately, lighting only gets very good in the late afternoon. Given an airshow of this scale, the good tactical demo and single ship demo is all done in the early part of the show. We sure wish one day the organizer will move some of the good demonstration to a later part.
